About the Author
Judith N. Martin is currently Herberger Professor of Communication in the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University. She received her Ph.D. in speech communication from the Pennsylvania State University. She also studied at the Universit� de Grenoble for a year, and was involved in study aboard administration for a number of years. She also has experience in cross cultural training and has co-authored three books with Prof. Tom Nakayama. Her current research interests focus on: the role of communication in cross cultural transitions, white identity and and communication, and pedagogical issues in teaching intercultural communication.

Thomas K. Nakayama is Professor and Director of the Department of Communications Studies, Northeastern University. He received his Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Iowa. He has been a Fulbright lecturer at the Universit� de Mons-Hainaut in Belgium and Libra Professor at the University of Maine. He has taught at Arizona State University, California State University, San Bernardino and the University of Iowa. His interests are in critical theory, cultural studies, and rhetorical studies.

Not my favorite book:

I am reading this book for my university course "Intercultural Communication" and have found that the essays within the book are at times discriminatory in their own sense. One of the essay authors writes about crossing borders in his Irish heritage and then into his self-affirmed homosexuality. Later in his essay, he inserts a blatant reference to the priesthood being a hiding place for homosexual men. This is totally false and truly offensive. If any essay were to even mention such a reference about homosexuals, different races, other religions, this would not be allowed into the "politically correct" book. Sure, the book offers different essays from different experiences - but again, it falls back to the analysis of the experiences that is always always the same. Overall, I don't like this book because, to me, it is not truly intercultural - it is liberal cultural. This assessment is coming from a tri-liguist study abroad student with a lot of exposure to many different cultures. I can tell a narrow-minded book when I see one. The essays are all written from a liberal assessment and no other types of assessment of the experiences in the essays. Therefore, I find the book hypocritical and lacking the many other shades of color that other philosophies could have offered and enriched.

Better Value Investing is a book that offers helpful insight into investing. The ideas are presented clearly, and even for readers who have little experience with investing, the author ensures that you have the tools you need.
The author starts with an overview of why investing is valuable and the fundamentals of how it works. Next, he tells the reader how to approach value investing and how to decide where to invest. He notes that “cheap investments” are often poor choices because they can be poorly managed and occasional frauds, so it is important to do your homework before investing. The author then gives the reader important strategies for investing and for managing a portfolio. The book concludes with tips for implementing the tactics that have been taught.
Overall, a good book for those who are looking to earn a profit from investing.

This is a great book for a value investor who is looking to refine their strategy. Mr. Hunt has done a great job of taking the investing process and breaking it down into easy to read explanations. This book does assume that the reader is acquainted with basic investing terminology and how the stock market works. The book begins by explaining what value investing is and the mindset of value investors. He then goes on to talk about how to analyze a stock as a potential investment and concludes with how to implement a value investing strategy with your own portfolio. I found this book to be easy-to-read and full of good information for improving your investment skills. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in investing.

A practical and easy to follow guide

Better Value Investing is a very interesting book on how to invest. It is clearly explained what is best for the investors and what is the attitude one must have once we decide where to invest. It gave me certain clues on how to do so. Moreover, it is easy reading, so I did not get bored while reading because Hunt wrote it in a nice style and it is easy to follow and to understand.
The book is quite short, I read it in a couple of days and I found it practical and inspirational. After reading it I would like to try some of the advices I read there. This is proof that Andrew has a clear idea on how to do it and he was willing to help others learn.
I would definitely recommend reading this guide on how to improve results as an investor.

About the Author

Dr. Kalipatnapu N. Rao passed away shortly after the completion of this book. He was an internationally recognized expert in the field of clinical chemistry and pathology. Dr. Rao obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry in 1965 from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, India. He retired from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in 2004 after 35 years of research and teaching. He was then employed as an expert witness in toxicology, testifying in several courts throughout the country. His expertise and broad recognition in the field of toxicology has helped both prosecution and defense lawyers.

as a avid reader i often sample book selections prior to purchase, especially if the book in question is technical or pricey; in sampling this particular volume, i was treated to the entire table of contents and nothing else...guess i won't be buying this one.

Charlie the Choo-Choo, Music and Good Wholesome Fun

Do you like trains? Have you ever taken a ride on a train?

The author, Beryl Evans, has written a riveting book about Charlie the Choo-Choo, and his Engineer Bob. They both worked for the Mid-World Railway Company, and their route was from St Louis to Topeka. This was a very busy line, and Bob and Charlie were the very best. They were the fastest and the best. Charlie was a 402 Big Boy locomotive, and he ran on coal. Together had many, many fun runs together, until one day, Bob could hear someone singing. When you read this book, you will discover who was singing, and several other big secrets.

Adults will enjoy reading this book to their children, and children who can read by themselves will also love this story. This is the kind of story with a lesson to be learned, and often those are the very best. This is a fun story that may elicit many questions from children. What is coal? How does a train run on coal? Who was singing? The illustrations by Ned Dameron are bright, vivid and colorful, and they depict Charlie the Choo-Choo and Engineer Bob in all their glory. What a wonderful life for both of them. And, now we have newer trains, but are
they as much fun as Charlie Choo-Choo? As Stephen King, another author, has said, if he were to write a children's book it would be just like this!

Plenty of zip and zowie for Dark Tower fans

I bought this book strictly for the connection to Stephen King's Dark Tower book series, but found it an interesting (perhaps a little unconventional) children's book in its own right. A close look at the illustrations does reveal that Charlie the Choo-Choo might be just a little "off," but the story is a pretty straightforward tale of friendship, loyalty, and usefulness. This is a neat little book for fans of Stephen King, perhaps less so for little kids who just want to hear a bedtime story.

Read-aloud storytellers should note that there is one use of the word "hell" in the book. The pictures (check out Charlie's facial expression in the photo below) and storyline might be a little unsettling or sad to the smallest kids.

Another great addition to our Stephen King collection.

My hubby is a huge Stephen King fan and had read the book that this is referenced in so he's been anticipating it for some time now. We have 2 little boys and he intends to read it to them, the illustrations seem a bit creepy to me but I guess it is Stephen King afterall. The book is well made and we love how they went along with the fake author's name and publishing dates, etc. to tie into the adult SK book it was mentioned in. Very clever.

About the Author

Kathy Lee Kappmeier has studied yoga in India and has more than 20 years of experience teaching yoga and training yoga teachers. She has given numerous workshops, retreats, and presentations both in the United States and abroad and has taught in a variety of venues, including public schools, hospitals, colleges, recreation centers, and sports medicine clinics. Intensely involved with the evolution, promotion, and direction of yoga education and standards, she has developed, directed, and appeared in numerous yoga videos, developed yoga programs, and founded YogaWell's Institute of Progressive Therapies in San Diego.

The former secretary of the Yoga Education Society, Ms. Kappmeier developed and coordinated a 1,000-hour course of study for holistic health practitioners at a vocational school. She received a BA in psychology and BS in physical therapy from the Union Institute & University in Cincinnati, and she received certifications in personal training, Tibetan Buddist psychology, and medical exercise. A registered yoga teacher through the Yoga Alliance, she is working on her PhD. In her spare time she enjoys creating art, riding her motorcycles, playing the Native American flute, and writing.

Diane M. Ambrosini earned an MA in physical education with an emphasis in kinesiology and biomechanics from San Diego State University. Her strong interest in movement science and the art of yoga led her to help expand the Institute of Progressive Therapies' Yoga Teacher Training programs by developing anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics components for continuing education workshops.

Ms. Ambrosini is registered with Yoga Alliance at the 500-hour teaching level. She is a partner in the Rancho San Diego Yoga Center and a member of Yoga Alliance, the Yoga Education Society, and the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She is also a personal trainer and Pilates and fitness instructor. She enjoys hiking, camping, and gardening.

THE essential guide for yoga instructors

In the last decade, yoga has become a booming business. Many people have made the shift from practitioner to yoga instructor. This has created a huge boon to yoga teacher training programs - many who are churning out 'certified' instructors at a rather breakneck speed. While these teacher training programs can get a someone on the path to teaching, oftentimes, a new instructor needs additional guidance and education in order to progress. It was only a matter of time before books geared towards the art of instructing yoga would become available.

"Instructing Hatha Yoga" by Kathy Lee Kappmeier and Diane M. Ambrosini is THE essential guide for instructors - no matter what your experience level. I cannot even begin to elaborate on how much information is presented in this practical and highly useable manual. It is chock full with everything a new (or seasoned) instructor could want. Everything that you could dream of is covered here: types of yoga, creating a class environment, music, safety, pranayama, anatomy, class frameworks, sanskrit pronunciation, sample classes, asanas, adjustments, modificiatons........and more!

The section with the asanas is especially helpful - the pose is pictured, along with sanskrit pronunciation, benefits, cautions, verbal cues, adjustments, modifications and kinematics. There are even pictures of an instructor adjusting as well as photos with props and modifications. This covers every aspect of the pose brilliantly. Nothing is left out. To top it all off, the authors have included an excellent DVD, which demonstrates some of the poses covered plus how to adjust common issues in each pose shown! This DVD is well produced with good demonstrations and a clear narrative. It is clear that these women have really done their homework. The amount of effort put into this book amazes me. It is obvious that they not only know yoga, but really want to help you become more knowledgeable as well.

"Instructing Hatha Yoga" has so much to rave about that I cannot recommend it highly enough. I would give it 10 stars if I could. This is the BEST guide that I have come across so far. I urge every instructor to run and buy this book. You will not regret it.

A great tool for teachers!

I am a certified yoga instructor, and I am always looking for new tools to use in my class. This book covers everything one needs to be a successful and inspiring yoga instructor - from class environments to adjustments to anatomy. I have learned some great new modifications and innovative verbal cues that my students have responded well to. I highly recommend this book to certified and aspiring instructors.

About the Author
Michael G. LaFosse has been an origami artist for decades, and is internationally regarded as a leading authority and master of the art. The author of many books, kits and videos relating to paperfolding and hand papermaking, LaFosse produces fine paper art and commercial designs for a variety of international clients. His work has been shown in museums and galleries around the world, and is currently on display at the Peabody Essex Museum in Massachusetts.

Richard L. Alexander co-founded the Origamido Studio, a teaching center, gallery and design studio in Massachusetts, with Michael G. LaFosse in 1996.

Some repetition of Advanced Origami, but a beautiful book nonetheless

I give this book 4 stars with reservations. Many of the patterns are VERY similar to those in Advanced Origami. However, between the two books, I'd advocate buying this one, so, hence the four stars.

LaFosse's books are unique in that they focus on paper and on wet folding. He empahsizes the art of folding, not intricate folds. His patterns tend to have a fairly low number of steps, but in order to generate the desired final product, a lot of time will be spent finishing.

The repetition starts in the "Techniques" section at the front of the book when he talks about making paper. Identical photographs are used in multiple cases between this book and Advanced Origami.

Entirely new patterns not similar to those found in Advanced Origami include a lobster, a fairly weak monk seal design, a great manatee fold, a cormorant, a great penguin, a modular flower requiring several sheets of paper for an un-extraordinary result, a fairly mundane fighter jet, and an amazing alligator. It's basically worth buying the book just for the alligator. Folds that gave me deja vu included the grackle, whale, butterfly, turtle, and orchid. (Sound familiar?)

Anyway, it certainly seems worth having one of LaFosse's books in your library if you're an origami enthusiast. If I had to choose, I'd pick this one. If the first one totally rocked your world, then you'll want to pick this one as well.

These books are for an intermediate or better folder, in my opinion. Complete beginners will probably find them a bit frustrating.

We purchased this for our grandson who learned some basic origami in school art class and on the internet. The book is large and arrived in beautiful condition. It had an abundance of items and patterns which even basic users could use as well as more advanced patterns. An overall good buy!

A waste of money

Disappointingly elementary. No different than a very basic introduction to accounting. Looked for specific guidance, including criteria, for capitalizing versus expensing an expenditure and found no more than the lowest level, basic guidance. No cross-references to particular accounting standards for further reading on the issue. A waste of money.
