From the Inside Flap
Excerpt Women have the power to make the lives of those around them better just by their very presence. I know women whose influence with their families and those around them is phenomenal. They are using the influence God gave them in a manner that is life giving to those they touch. I've talked about men achieving greatness. Some women say, "My man is just an average guy, he could never be a great man." Well maybe that's true--and it certainly will be if no one believes in him like only you can. He may never become great without your help and faith in him. He will fulfill whatever expectations you have. Every man has the seeds of greatness within him. They need to be watered and nurtured to grow. I believe that's a role God gave to you. But it's not easy; that role takes courage and persistence. The man who is fortunate enough to walk beside a woman like this calls himself blessed. These women truly are women of influence. They have answered God's call to a higher standard in life--one of fulfilling their God-given role as helpmate and completer in a man's life. By living that role they bless not only their husbands and children, but they themselves live lives of blessing, contentment, and great satisfaction.

Loaded with communication tips and tools!
By Petey Malone
I am so glad this book was written. It is not an easy task to always be able to get a point across but learning how, when and why really makes a difference. Johnson is straight to the point with a bit of humor, his writing style is easy to read and full of 'ah ha' moments! This is a great book for women seeking to choose a 'good man', especially helpful to divorced women re-entering the dating world and a real gift to the new bride! Myself, married more then 25 years found it to be refreshing and uplifting. Thanks!

A Whole New View
By SeekingTheBest
This book was amazing! It offers amazing insight into the qualities that constitute a good man and a good father, particularly to those of us who weren't blessed to have that role model as a child. It helped me to understand what to value and expect, as well as what to seek after in raising my sons. This is a must have for any woman who is still looking for the love of her life or for the woman who has him and thinks things could be even better. There is something for everyone.

Do you want to positively influence your husband?
By Irene's Book Reviews
Do you want to positively influence your husband? This book explores how to communicate better with him and change your marriage. You will learn ways to encourage him and build his self-esteem. By following the guidelines in this book you will have a more supportive and happy husband.

Although a man wrote this book, it is primarily for a woman to read. As you read this insightful book you may disagree with some of what is written. However, there are many principles to apply to your everyday interaction with the man in your life. There is advice on how to encourage him to be the leader in your family. The author advises you do this by stepping back and letting him be the lead decision maker even if you don't agree with the decision. The author does point out that the women should be allowed to voice her opinion. He states that in the end, to teach her husband leadership, a wife should let the decision be his. Letting him be the final word in the family decisions will also help build his self-esteem.

The author repeatedly comments that praise and admiration are the best tools to having a healthy relationship with your husband. When your husband feels respected he will show you more respect. This book is funny at times, always easy to read and definitely filled with practical advice.

Each selection has been thoroughly reedited, and the order of the poems has been rearranged in light of redating or other reconsiderations. All headnotes are new or updated, and many footnotes have been added, replaced, or revised.

"Criticism" reflects the recent renaissance in Shelley studies, the greatest renaissance since 1870-92. All twenty-three essays are new to the Second Edition; among them are the work of Harold Bloom, Stuart Curran, Annette Wheeler Cafarelli, Michael Ferber, James Chandler, and Susan J. Wolfson.

A Chronology, an updated Selected Bibliography, and an Index of Titles and First Lines are included.

Indispensable
By A Customer
If you only buy one book of Shelley's works -- make it this one.
This edition contains all Shelley's major poetry, as well as three essays (see table of contents on this page).
The bonus is that, as this is a critical edition, it also contains 15 brief critical essays, which are among the best explications you'll find of Shelley's work. (Since it's a critical edition, the poems are also heavily footnoted, something you'll either love or hate.)
The only downside is that a number of Shelley's shorter and lighter poems are absent (e.g., "Love's Philosophy"), and only a small portion of "Laon and Cyntha" appears here -- but overall the selection is solid. And, like all the Norton critical editions, this is printed on decent paper, eye-straining, tissue-thin stock found in some other volumes.
Perfect for those new to Shelley as well as long-time devotees.

Pure Intellectual Beauty
By A Customer
Shelley is the wild child of English poetry and his determined opposition to tyranny produced a huge variety of poetry, ranging from the rending lament of Keats in Adonais, to the defiant and taut sonnet Ozymandias. His single greatest work, however, is Prometheus Unbound, which a vast gothic ruin of neat poetry. One shot of it and you'll wonder why a) all the nice, obvious prosy bits seem to have been left out and b) why exactly you love it, and him, so much. Like a cross between a vision of God and a lobotomy.
It's strange, but he means it and the grand sweep of the poem and its rebirth of humanity (I did say this isn't kitchen sink drama) is as distinctive an experience as reading Milton for the first time or the first time you read a love letter in the bath. Holding an electric fire.
There are many other poems which should be headline news, such as Hymn to Intellectual Beauty, Mont Blanc, Mutability and Ode to the West Wind, but this edition also has the advantage of including the Defence of Poetry which is the most rhapsodic and emotive arguments you'll ever have the pleasure to be swept away by. For a second you want to believe the beautiful nonsense that 'poets are the unackowledged legislators of the world'. Shelley pulls no punches in prose because he hasn't pulled any in poetry. He believes in the prophetic importance of his role and is electric enough to almost make us belive him.
This is the best student edition of Shelley's works in print. Not according to me, but to a Professor in Romantic Poetry at Oxford University. Not a bad recommendation!
The essays in this volume are generally helpful and explain the structures of the poems where useful. They are also refreshingly short. Shelley is a poet who has run close to obscurity due to reams of bad criticism (by figures as famous as Matthew Arnold and FR Leavis) who have mistaken his extraordinary originality for weakness. An easy mistake, I'm sure. Shelley's poetry is all in the mind, and the lack of concreteness can be frustrating. A bit like flying can be so much more tiresome than walking.

GREAT, GREAT GREAT!

For those of you who are just personal trainer, start thinking about the Special Population (Obesity, High Blood Pressure etc.) and read the book Relationship and Referrals and learn about Medical Exercise ([...]) If you're a beginner start with this book, it's self explanatory, with pictures and step by step instructions and photographs who could ask for anything more. The cost is worth every penny. Don't be a penny pincher when it comes to helping someone who can become your walking billboard. The service and delivery of this book was great. I use this book for reference and I even took it to KINKO to remove the covers and make it spiral so I can fold the book in half and I went as far also to get it for my ipad in case I forgot my book at the office. yes you can purchase this book through Kindle. Go for it!

This book is ideal for therapists from any dicipline in the FHT membership. From the first page I was hooked ... The book is very well presented and I feel is not only a useful tool for students and lecturers, but could also be used as a guide for practising therapists. From the Back Cover

Attested since the fourteenth century BC, and still spoken today by over 10 million people, Greek has been one of the most influential languages in human history. English, Spanish, French, Russian and Arabic are among the many languages to have borrowed key terms and concepts from Greek.

A Brief History of Ancient Greek takes the reader through the history of this ancient language from its Indo-European beginnings right up to the present day, and explains key relationships between the language and literature of the Classical period (500 - 300 BC). The development of the language is also related to the social and political context, in line with modern sociolinguistic thought. The book reflects the latest scholarship on subjects such as Koin Greek, and the relationship between literary and vernacular Greek.

All Greek is transliterated and translated where appropriate, so that the text is accessible to readers who know little or no Greek, including scholars and students who require an accessible overview of the history of the language, or linguists and professionals who need a quick source of data and background information.

This book brought out every emotion in the spectrum.
By Michelle Ford Copley
I LOVE this series! I don't know, I think Kenyon is magic...She can take the most hated character in a series and in the space of less than 800 pages make them one of your favorite characters. Jullien was a character that I loved to hate, but like in her other series (Dark Hunter) that one character that makes you want to strangle-- settles right into your heart. She is a master at this and I find I must read everything she puts in print. Jullien and Ushara are amazing together and Ushara is the perfect mate for this broken male. Ushara is no sissy, she is a VERY strong female, in a world that has a strong matriarchal presence. It took me 4 good days to get through this book and I am a fairly quick reader. My reading time is at a premium anymore. I laughed, I cried, I felt the emotions strongly from these characters. She also introduced us to more characters I am looking forward to getting to know and of course we got to see some of the old characters though not nearly as much as in some of her past books in this series. Jullien was the twin to another hero in this series, Nyk. Throughout the series we saw a LOT of reasons to hate Jullien but with this addition we see behind the scenes and see why he was the way he was. We get to know the relationship between he and his family and it is pretty horrific. There could be triggers in this book if you are sensitive. I can not recommend this book highly enough and will be doing another read of it in a week or so. It was just that darn good. I am looking forward to her next release which I think is in August, so I will probably re read that series again to prepare for it. The male characters in her series are serious Alpha males but they can be tender with those they care deeply for. I found myself cheering for Jullien's every triumph. There are only 2 authors I get this attached to the characters in their books and Kenyon is definitely one.

SIX STARS and my favorite Kenyon ever
By Christina Wilson
Can I give a book SIX stars?
Sherrilyn Kenyon's League series has long been my favorite of all her series. When I heard she was expanding the original trilogy, I was SO excited and happy. And most of those books have lived up to my expectations, earning 4 or 5 stars in my mental rating system. This book, however - If I could give it a 6-star review, I would. In fact, it just might have knocked the original trio off the top as my favorite (not sure, I'll have to re-read the entire series to be sure :-) )
I find there are often three main themes running through Ms. Kenyon's work: 1) every being (human or otherwise) has flaws, 2) there are always at least two sides to every story, and 3) no one is beyond forgiveness and redemption. In this book, I believe she fully illustrates all three themes better than in any of her others (even the Acheron/Styx twin series from the Dark Hunter series).
Firstly, the characters in this series are a product of the environment and times they inhabit - a BRUTAL, violent world where assassination and death are common and frequent. Honor, true friendship, trust, and loyalty are rare. Supposed friends will sell each other out for the right price. Even families can't trust each other - especially among the higher echelons of power, and they don't hesitate to wipe each other out for gain. Parents often don't like their children, and vice versa, and child abuse - it happens and mostly, no one bats an eye or cares. You have to understand that to understand how parents could so love one child and so horribly mistreat another. Favored children are pampered and spoiled, un-favored children are lucky to be alive.
Each of Ms. Kenyon's books makes a "superhero" of the main character. The story within those pages is about that character, and events within the timeline of the book are from their POV. Born of Legend is the "twin" counterpart to the very FIRST book in the League series, Born of Night. In BON, Nykarian (Jullien's twin) was the superhero. And what a superhero he was! He was everyone's white knight, dressed in black, riding in the save the day. Of course, he had his flaws, but they were relatively few and easily forgivable. His family, including Jullien, played a truly horrible role in his story, abusing and torturing him, kidnapping his wife, etc. At the end of the book, however, we discover his parents were not to blame for their supposed actions and were exonerated of any wrong-doing, all is forgiven, and he goes on to become heir to TWO kingdoms. But not Jullien - he is disinherited, disowned, exiled and then his character disappears and is largely forgotten except as an occasional footnote to mention what a horrible, terrible, no good, very bad person he is/was. This theme of Nyk as hero continues through most of the ensuing novels in the series. Some protagonist does something terrible to the hero or love interest in the book, and eventually Nyk and/or his ever growing band of allies rides in at the end to aid in the rescue. (Yes, I do realize that's not JUST a writer's ploy to tie the novels together, but because loyal readers actually expect to "visit" the characters in the series to see what they're up to.)
In Born of Legend, we at last get to find out what happened to one of the most disliked characters in the League universe - Nik's twin brother Jullien. We get to hear HIS side of the story - HIS motivation for his horrible actions in Born of Night. And like in many of Ms. Kenyon's novels, we discover Jullien's world was not "wine-and-roses", as expected. Jullien is absolutely a flawed character and he absolutely owns up to those flaws, sometimes to his detriment, leading to self-loathing, hasty action, and self-harm. In Born of Legend, we experience his redemption story from hitting absolute rock bottom and near death to self-redemption, forgiving himself, shaking off his past and finally accepting the life he has built for himself, without looking back.
And yes, Nyk, our previously "perfect" superhero, is knocked a bit askew on his pedestal. We discover he is perhaps not himself without flaws. Great assassin? Absolutely. Great ruler? Ummm, not yet. That takes a knowledge and understanding of politics and diplomacy, and neither are found at the end of a blaster. Those will take some time to develop. And Kiara? Great mom, yes, but the years haven't made her any calmer or more level-headed in an emergency. And hearing someone else's description of both characters was... eye-opening.
By the course of the book, we see no one is beyond redemption and forgiveness (and if others can't find that forgiveness yet, that's their damage). His character, too, is a person worthy of admiration, rather than any carry-over dislike you might have expected at the start of the book.

The Best of the Series!
By Shauni

********************BEWARE SPOILERS AHEAD******************

Maybe not extreme spoilers but things of definite note.

Born of Legend is Book 9 in the amazing Sherrilyn Kenyon's League Series. In many ways it has leap frogged to the top of my favorite Kenyon Series. Maybe because it remains true to the beginning.. and maybe because it's just that good.

We all know you can't have a Kenyon hero without him having a tortured soul, it's just not possible. Each hero has to overcome some pretty nasty stuff. And on occasion (Styxx) he also has to overcome our preconceived notions. Yep, Sherrie manages to redeem the unredeemable. I bring that up because Born of Legend also redeems the unredeemable. Julian En Anatole.. And it was an amazing ride. This time, Sherrie gets it near perfect! In Styxx it was almost overkill and Zanax was definitely required and there were times when I hated Ash.. yeah not goo. But This time... It was less overkill and more emotional. More an adult who has to deal with the remnants of an abusive childhood, both physical and emotional. A child who was neglected, drugged and turned into the scapegoat of a nation. But Julian, AKA Dagger, rose above it all. Became the man he dreamed of being. Was he perfect? Nope...

We start Born of Legend when Julian was on his last hope, he was determined to die and he decided to do so by saving a child. That one action truly changed his life. Introduced him to the woman who became his "Darling Star" his guiding light, his very reason for being. And in turn helped him to overcome a dark and desperate past to be the man he dreamed of. But more than that, he became a true legend.

Ushara is Trivali, a race hammered together of outlaws with a code. She is the second in command and pretty much has it all. Has it all until her son is kidnapped and she is desperate to find him, to save him. What she finds is a stranger willing to give his life for her child. A Stranger broken in heart and body but still willing to save a child. How can Ushara NOT fall for this guy. As she begins to realize just who he is, she knows she should encourage him to move on, to start over somewhere else. I mean his family pretty much destroyed her entire race.. ooops. But she can't she keeps seeing the man behind the mask.

Ushara has the strength and fortitude that no one in Julian's life has ever had AND she believes in him. He is not perfect and he's most definitely a work in progress. That and he always puts the family that left him first. Kind of irksome but as I said, Julian evolves. He creates his own family. He becomes a hero, a legend to his new people. And when it comes time to save the family of his past he goes and faces those demons as well.

And there were some serious cheer moments.. Like when Mama dearest tries to claim him as her son and she is totally slapped down by the woman who has adopted him into her lineage.. Or when Thraix (a friend) wants to know where Julian gets his intelligence because it obviously wasn't from anyone in his side of the family. A total slap down.. Brilliantly done.

What I really enjoyed is that we don't have to hate Nykerian.. Julian did some pretty crappy stuff to him in the past but Nyk understands that there were circumstances.. BUT.. happily ever after? BFF's?

This was a story of redemption, personal redemption and finding your own place in the world. Not living up to or down to the expectations of others but living your own life. Your own dreams and becoming the person you want to be.

Just wonderful!

Naval forces have not yet received the attention they are due for their role in Operation Desert Shield. This chronological account offers a unique, and as yet, unseen level of detail regarding the Navy's contribution throughout the operation. Relying on primary sources whenever possible, this book discusses naval decisions in terms of information available to decision-makers at the time and presents the pros and cons for alternative courses of action, as argued at the time of the original decision. It details the Navy's role in planning for successful operations, its constant vigil against surprise attack, and its daily contribution to the maritime interception effort to enforce U.N. economic sanctions against Iraq.

Naval forces upheld the sanctions at sea in such a way as to avoid disabling a civilian ship and provided the glue that helped create and maintain the multi-national coalition. The complexity of the situation required the naval forces to adapt their command and control to a highly centralized operation which placed unprecedented demands on the Navy's communications systems. This study provides an insider view of the various plans, even those that were not carried out, and valuable insights into the personalities of the leading officials. Sources include first-hand observations of the events at ComUSNavCent, where the author had access to nearly all events and decisions; hundreds of thousands of messages and other briefing materials; the post-war analysis done by the Center for Naval Analyses; and interviews with almost all of the key players.
