Sarah's at a new place!

In Sarah plain and Tall, I think the open prarie is the most important part of the setting. Reason being, where Sarah comes from, there's buildings, air pollution, roads, and it's crowded. All though, in a prarie, there is trees instead of buildings, fresh air instead of pollution, grass instead of roads, and all the space instead of it being crowded. I didn't really like the book because it's only 58 pages long. I'd recommend this to ages 6 through 10.

Finally a way to understand this "french"

Im currently improving my french skills but never got to the point of being able to really understand people from Quebec - the accent is something to get used to, but the different vocabulary drove me nuts - now I at least know what they mean, how they mean it and how this developed. Great read!

studying Quebecois dialtect

Well I though the book had great material, which was fun and this is coming from someone, me, who is an English language teacher, so I do believe I appreciate the usefulness and color of the book. I will say though that even though I didn`t pay a lot for it, I still would`t have wanted to have paid anymore as the material is limited and considering that one could get a text that is 20 times bigger for only 10 times the price...but I am traveling to Quebec this summer and hope to use these expressions. I also found it was limited to vocabulary and phrases. Surely there must be more idioms that they report here that are unique to Quebec, non?

As a French speaker (from France) I bought this little book before my first travel to Quebec and it helped me quite a lot: in my case not to speak as a Quebecker but to understand common expressions. Small book but very complete - very helpful - and really funny to read. You don't even have to go to Quebec to buy it but just to discover all these funny words and expressions typically from there.
Just to mention: it is one of the most complete I found on the market...

About the Author
Michael Levy, PhD, is the Charles Clarke Reynolds Professor of Marketing and Director of the Retail Supply Chain Institute at Babson College. He received his PhD in business administration from The Ohio State University and his undergraduate and MS degrees in business administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He taught at Southern Methodist University before joining the faculty as professor and chair of the marketing department at the University of Miami. Professor Levy has developed a strong stream of research in retailing, business logistics, financial retailing strategy, pricing, and sales management. He has published over 50 articles in leading marketing and logistics journals, including the Journal of Retailing, Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Journal of Marketing Research. He is coauthor of Retailing Management, 6e (2007), the best-selling college-level retailing text in the world. Professor Levy was co-editor of Journal of Retailing from 2001–2007. Professor Levy has worked in retailing and related disciplines throughout his professional life. Prior to his academic career, he worked for several retailers and a housewares distributor in Colorado. He has performed research projects with many retailers and retail technology firms, including Accenture, Federated Department Stores, Khimetrics, Mervyn’s, Neiman Marcus, ProfitLogic (Oracle), Zale Corporation, and numerous law firms. He co-chaired the 1993 Academy of Marketing Science conference and the 2006 Summer AMA conference.

Dhruv Grewal, PhD (Virginia Tech), is the Toyota Chair in Commerce and Electronic Business and a professor of marketing at Babson College. His research and teaching interests focus on marketing foundations, marketing research, retailing, pricing, and value-based strategies. He was awarded the 2005 Lifetime Achievement in Behavioral Pricing Award by Fordham University. He is a “Distinguished Fellow” of the Academy of Marketing Science. He has also coauthored Marketing Research (2004, 2007). Professor Grewal has published over 70 articles in journals such as Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Retailing, and Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. He currently serves on numerous editorial review boards, including Journal of Retailing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Interactive Marketing, and Journal of Public Policy & Marketing. He served as co-editor of Journal of Retailing from 2001–2007. Professor Grewal has won many awards for his teaching including, 2005 Sherwin-Williams Distinguished Teaching Award, SMA; 2003 AMA Award for Innovative Excellence in Marketing Education; 1999 AMS Great Teachers in Marketing Award; Executive MBA Teaching Excellence Award (1998); School of Business Teaching Excellence Awards (1993, 1999); and Virginia Tech Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Teaching (1989). He co-chaired: 1993 AMS Conference, 1998 Winter AMA Conference, a 1998 Marketing Science Institute Conference, 2001 AMA doctoral consortium, and 2006 Summer AMA Conference. Professor Grewal has taught executive seminars and courses and/or worked on research projects with numerous firms, such as IRI, TJX, Radio Shack, Monsanto, McKinsey, Motorola, and numerous law firms. He has taught seminars in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

Good customer service however the book came with a note ...

Good customer service however the book came with a note explaining why it had a different cover which was a bit disappointed as it never said in the product description that I would come with a different cover. I will be comparing its content to make sure is the one I need since it doesn't feel as heave as the one in the bookstore and the texture of the pages is weird maybe it is just me but I am taking it to the bookstore to compare.

I have forgotten how great and valuable this book is. Sometimes books like Rascal are most valuable when you re-read when you're deeper in your journey as a leader (also a valuable read when you're starting that journey too). Chapters like The Battle where you get a deeper look into The Productive Loon help you to gage where you are and how to get back in the zone if you have fallen out, which I'm guilty of! Also this book provides a test to see what level of Rascal you are, so that every time you visit the book you can do a real PDCA to see how you're journey into leadership is doing.

Great book! We strive so much in our early years to follow the crowd or fit in. It's really bad training for success. If we want extraordinary results (which is above the crowd) we need to be a Rascal. Chris does a great job helping re-frame our thinking in this book.

Napoleon's arrival on the European stage intensified these fears, and the changes he wrought across Europe fully justified them. Yet he also brought some comfort to those rulers who managed to survive: he had tamed the revolution in France and the hegemony he exercised over Europe was a kind of guarantee against subversion. Once Napoleon was toppled, the monarchs of Europe took over this role for themselves.

However, the nature of their attempts to impose order were not only ineffectual, they also managed to weaken the bases of that order. As counter-productive as anything, for example, was the use of force. Reliance on standing armies to maintain order only served to politicize the military and to give potential revolutionaries the opportunity to get their hands on a ready armed force.

The wave of revolutions in 1848 might have embodied the climactic clash that many had come to expect, but it was no Armageddon, lacking the kind of mass support that rulers had dreaded and revealed the groundlessness of most of their fears. Interestingly, the sense of a great, ill-defined, subversive threat never went away, indeed it lingers on even today in the minds of world leaders.

Adam Zamoyski's compelling history explores how the rulers and governments of the time really did envisage the future and how they meant to assure it.

Adam Zamoyski was born in New York, was educated at Oxford, and lives in London. A full-time writer, his books include ‘Paderewski’, ‘The Last King of Poland’,‘1812: Napoleon’s Fatal March on Moscow’, which was a Sunday Times bestseller, ‘Rites of Peace: The Fall of Napoleon and the Congress of Vienna’, ‘Warsaw 1920’ and ‘Chopin’. He is married to the painter Emma Sergeant.

great topic for a book

This is a very interesting angle and topic, but it is treated somewhat academic. There are a lot of bright moments but in general a little more humor could be mixed into this wonderfully bizarre story. The book is at its best at its late part when the author releases himself and draws more broad conclusions. The topic and rigour of the book is in itself worth the read and will give you new great new insights, but i would have prefered a little more zest.
